A tantalizing offering for a new Zombie Apocalypse!

So a new "walkthrough" video got released today from a press conference for one of my most overly anticipated games of the year, aside from Arkham City, that being of course the new Zombie game to possibly rule them all; Dead Island.

Now I first stumbled across this a few months ago when the original teaser trailer came out. And boy did that take my breath away! But we all know that trailers in comparison to gameplay can be vastly different, usually with a trailer making you think a game is going to be utterly awesome only to be confronted with a lucklustre gameplay affair once you get past it. I'll let you spend a moment with the trailer first though to get your impressions...

**WARNING: The contents of this video may be considered to be both disturbing & graphic in nature. It is highly suggested that this not be viewed by children.

The Original Trailer

So there you go. Pretty confronting? I thought so when I first watched it. Amazing? Yes indeed. I'd put this game on the backburner though because firstly I doubt we're going to be getting it released here in Australia for starters which means another import if I'm to enjoy the full game as intended (ie. Left 4 Dead 2, thanks to my brothers). Secondly there wasn't any actual gameplay to be oggling at to confirm or deny how great the game was to be.

Fast forward a few months and now we get a hands-on trailer. Well hands-on by one of the developers of the game who sounds strikingly like Arnold Schwarzenegger. I'd say looking at the game you've got a pretty fair hybrid going on. Taking large inspiration from Left 4 Dead, add in environment interaction & item "levels" like Borderlands, throw in a little typical RPG crafting/repairing of items, a little Grand Theft Auto III for open-world exploration and open-ended questing & lastly just throw it all into a Gilligan's Island-style setting.

Chuck it all in a rusty blender and voila! You now have what looks to be one of the greatest Zombie games to ever be created: Dead Island. Let's just hope it's not hampered down by lazy mechanics, repetitive missions & glitches above and beyond belief. If it comes out all polished I think this could be a run away hit! There is 4-Player Co-op spoken about at the very end of the video!

And below you'll find a nice gameplay trailer showing off the game in what appears to be only a portion of it's unfathomable glory! You'll find that the voice over guy has some hilarious one-liners towards the end of the video when he's discussing combat.
My favourite part of the whole video is at 6:57: "OOHH! Nice and quiet here!"
