A new beginning? That sound so stupid...

Well here I am, typing a blog. Weird! I guess I should probably start my first one off by explaining a bit about who I am and where I intend this blog to explore. Well at least I can mostly attend to that.

So who am I? That question could get pretty deep, but let's not go there. Well I'm currently a 27 year old male who is attending university and working part time as a Manager of a retail mobile phone store. I have a wonderful fiancé who I've been with for just over 5 years who is very supportive of the person I choose to be, which is more than I can ask of anyone. It is that person that generally will be the topic of discussion throughout the posts of this blog. Not so much me as a person, but things I get up to, what I'm interested in and the ideas that race around my mind.

My musical tastes lean heavily towards metal. Real metal; the bands that were around pre-2000. What I call metal you may not, but I started out listening to Metallica, Pantera, White Zombie & Judas Priest and ended up down the paths of Static X, Mr Bungle, Strapping Young Lad, Coal Chamber, Marilyn Manson & Cradle of Filth to name but a few bands. I consider Mike Patton as a god and Wayne Static, Devin Townsend, Phil Anselmno, Rob Zombie, B. Dez Fafara & Dani Filth as very heavy (pun intended) influences on my own musicality.

I dabble with guitar & vocals, writing and recording some stuff over the years and being parts of the odd band and side project since I was a teenager. My recordings were never anything overly professional, despite the studio and equipment that was in use. I'm more of a vocalist than guitarist and more a lyricist than a vocalist, but I get by with what I do & only do it to please my own aspirations. I've been working on and off with a solo project for a year or so now, fleshing out a "concept album" just for the hell of it.

There was once a time I saw myself as becoming a writer of novels, it's still something that crosses my mind. I'd written the odd short story growing up and spent some of the better years of my high schooling focussing on English Literature and getting into poetry (which later lead to lyrics). A few years back I started writing a horror story which I only got a few chapters into, but I lost interest and my work started becoming overly familiar to other stories. Recently I have started writing yet another thriller/horror taking a completely new direction and hope to follow through with it.

I'm heavily involved in the Nerf scene, under the moniker of Mohrlock yet again, here in Western Australia. I can't say I've single-handedly lifted the scene here in Perth off the ground, but I've certainly been a key player in putting the wheels in motion to get us from nothing to where we are today. I like to consider myself as a grown man with Peter Pan Syndrome and like to share that feeling with whomever is willing to listen.

So Nerf, music and writing aside I'd have to highlight the fact that I am pretty much the epitomy of being a geek. I love my gaming and spend whatever spare time I can either in RPGs (ex-MMO player) or FPS-style games. I'm a PC player generally, love my Nintendo DS (Lite) and have been a gamer since I could fit my hands around a Sega Master System controller. The gaming doesn't stop there, I love my boardgames and traditional-style RPGs. The occasional TCG or tabletop game never goes astray either.

My geek runs deeper than just that. I'm a bit of a comic geek; leaning to the DC side more than Marvel between that "debate". Only purely for my love for Batman and the characters that make up the world he inhabits. My true comic roots lay with the no-longer-around Chaos Comics. For those of you who never had the chance to know their comics you surely missed out on a delightfully dark world. Lady Death was my protaginist of choice, occasionally reading Purgatori, Chastity & Bad Kitty. I'm sure I'll get into these later.

I know the standard length of a blog is meant to be short so I might wrap it up here. Consider this a glimpse into what will be discussed throughout my blogging escapades. There's much more to me than this, but I don't want you falling asleep reading all this. So expect in the future for these juxtaposed parts of my life to be scrutinized and talked about. Perhaps there will be some geeking out over Nerf, the odd bit of music and writings, gaming escapades and anything else that seems relevant to my world; which in turn is hopefully at least interesting to yourself: the reader.

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read this blog and hope to hear your reflections as well. And if there's anything you'd like to hear more on just go ahead and asked :)

Regards,
Mohrlock
